Mission and objectives
UNICEF Ethiopia is implementing a 5-year country programme 2020-2025 which is fully aligned with the UNSDCF. UNICEF will work collaboratively within the UNSDCF on a joint strategy to strengthen national systems for data collection, analysis, monitoring and applying adjustments to promote equity. Evidence will be used to monitor the situation of children, tracking progress towards equity and scale, and to inform advocacy to adjust policies, strategies and budgets. Monitoring and corrective actions will be undertaken through UNICEF staff, partners and third-party monitoring, and through mechanisms for community feedback and accountability to affected populations.
Context
This UNV assignment is part of a social inclusion (disability programming) initiative to reduce social development inequalities in Ethiopia. UNICEF Ethiopia is seeking assistance that will provide critical support for the accelerated implementation of disability mainstreaming in the Ethiopian social sector programming and disability policy fields as well as in the UNICEF country programme activities. Ethiopia is a flagship programme with regard to upscaling social programmes and programme linkages through FIVE critical flagship programmes – Stop Stunting, End Open Defecation, All Children Learning, End Child Marriage, and Emergency Preparedness & Response. Work will be done through a twin track approach: mainstreaming and targeting to UNICEF’s programs and operations.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Social Policy, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
• Support the UNICEF Ethiopia Country Office to develop and consolidate disability inclusion data and information for programme reporting and review purposes.
• Participate in disability mainstreaming activities within UNICEF programmes (health, nutrition, WASH, Education, Social Protection, and Child Protection) and especially
with respect to mainstreaming the needs of children and adolescents with disabilities.
• Contribute towards barrier-free access to services and relevant access to rehabilitation and prevention programmes in Ethiopia, across UNICEF-supported
programmes and in inter-agency collaboration.
• Assist in the strengthening and expansion of partnerships between UNICEF and civil society organizations, UN agencies and the private sector to support disability
inclusion within programmes.
