Project: LE NAKHTO MA’AN لنخطو معا” – STEP TOGETHER – intervention for the strengthening of community systems and resources for the protection and social inclusion of the most vulnerable groups among the refugee and host communities in the governorates of Ma’an, Aqaba, Zarqa and Mafraq, in framework of a multisectoral intervention of protection, education and health.

AVSI Foundation, an NGO created in 1972, carries out cooperation projects for development, with a particular emphasis on education. In its work, its attention is focused on the defense and promotion of the dignity of the person, the cornerstone of every project. AVSI Foundation has been operating in Jordan since 2006 and contributed to supporting the most vulnerable local communities, Palestinian, Iraqi and Syrian refugees through providing projects and activities that focus on social protection, health and psycho-social assistance, education, vocational training and job placement and income-generating activities.
About the project:
The project aims to contribute to promoting and safeguarding the protection, well-being, dignity and integrity of the most vulnerable individuals and families among Syrian refugees and Jordanian host communities, exposed to the consequences of the Syrian crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic. This will be done by strengthening community systems for the protection and safeguard of the most vulnerable groups among refugees and Jordanian host communities in Zarqa, Mafraq and Aqaba Governorates, as part of an integrated framework of protection, assistance, empowerment and social inclusion.
Project’s activities will be carried out in all locations. They include, but are not limited to: Community engagement activities aimed at planning interventions on issues of protection and social relevance; Capacity-building of partners and project staff to strengthen knowledge on protection needs; Organization and implementation of community initiatives by Community Leaders; cash-for-protection**,** cash-for-education**,** cash-for-health; skills development courses and professional courses for people at risk; Child protection activities; Social and Psycho-Social Support (PSS); Awareness-raising at community level.
About the position:
The Social Worker will be responsible for implementing and following up project activities in the Southern locations of the project (Gweirah and Aqaba). The main responsabilities including but not limited to:
Role and responsibilities:
- Support the Area Coordinator in developing the work plan of each project activity, organize, implement them and ensure that they are executed as per the shared calendar.
- Responsible of the identification (home visits and phone calls), assessment (FGDs, interviews to the beneficiaries) and follow up of vulnerable beneficiaries in Aqaba and Gweirah throughout the project, in coordination with the MEAL Staff;
- Responsible of the identification of potential Protection cases and referral to the Case Managers;
- Support the Area Coordinator in the preparation and follow up of the cash distribution to the beneficiaries in the area of responsibility;
- Support the organization of all Protection activities in Gweirah and Aqaba, in collaboration with local partners;
- Support the MEAL Department in monitoring the quality of implemented activities, their impact, and beneficiaries’ participation;
- Prepare and archive relevant documents (such as Activity Reports, beneficiaries’ Attendance Sheets, etc.), including photos and videos;
- In charge of regular data collection from field and reporting to supervisors;
- Proven and documented weekly communication with the Area Coordinator and Protection Coordinator;
- Any other activity requested by the Project Manager.
Competencies:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in social work (Social Protection)
- Bachelor Degree in relevant subject (Social Work, Psychology, Education, Development or Humanitarian Studies, etc.)
- Good oral and written communication skills in English and proficiency in Arabic;
- Strong organizational and team working skills.
Other competencies:
- Experience in working with vulnerable and refugee communities;
- Good reporting and excellent communication and interpersonal skills to mobilize communities and stakeholders;
- Good knowledge of the local context (Aqaba Governorate);
- Flexibility and adaptability;
- Acquaintance with Microsoft Office: Word and Excel.
