The role of the WASH Assistant position is to assist in the implementation of WASH activities, supporting the implementation of WASH conduct field outreach with communities, and monitoring day-to-day implementation and coordination with WASH and HP Officers.

Key Tasks and Assignments:

  • Provide general administrative and operational support to the WASH /Emergency response programme.
  • Support to WASH Officers, conduct needs assessments, infrastructure assessment, verification and data collection to identify cases for WASH assistance in refugee camps and host communities.
  • Prepare estimate, BoQ and drawing of WASH infrastructure based on needs.
  • Monitor loading and offloading of WASH materials and verify materials meet technical specifications.  Ensure proper utilization of stock out materials for repair/rehabilitation works.
  • Provide direction, monitor assigns tasks and gives instructions to daily workers (e.g. National and refugee CW) and evaluates individual performance. 
  • Take part in the mobilization of refugee and host communities for awareness campaigns and for conducting research using focus group discussions, interviews and questionnaires.
  • Establish excellent relations with project participants including understanding the needs of beneficiaries through regular visits and frequent contact.
  • Perform any other task as assigned by WASH/HP Officer and Coordinator. 

Key Education and Skills Requirements: 

  • Minimum 1 year experience in relevant field.
  • Bachelors/Diploma in architecture, civil engineering or construction management or equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of the refugee context in Bangladesh
  • Ability to communicate in Chittagonian dialect
  • Experience of working in a non-profit organization an asset.
  • Knowledge of the software programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD)

What we offer:

  • Duty Station: Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.
  • Contract duration: 12 months
  • 80% travel, approximately.
  • Grade 03 in NRC’s Salary Scale, with accompanying terms and conditions. NRC offers an excellent compensation and benefits package. Group Insurance for staff and dependents, 24/7 Psychosocial assistant.
