Course description
The course on water and sanitation engineering puts an extra focus on emergency applications but is also highly relevant to regular WatHab operations. The training includes theory sessions, exercises and practical applications.
What you will learn?
By the end of this course participants are able to:
• List the main groups of water related pathogens, their pathways and specific interventions to control disease transmission, particularly in a humanitarian context.
• Know the concepts of basic sanitation technologies and to design and implement simple sanitation solutions.
• Understand the basics of hydrogeology and hydrogeological surveys as well as the options and key rules for borehole design, -construction and -testing.
• Understand and test essential water quality parameters and to set up a mobile water treatment unit.
• Understand the basics of field data collection, hydraulics and characteristics of different pumps, and to design simple pressurized and gravity water supply systems.
Who should attend?
WatHab staff, residents as well as mobiles, who wish to develop their skills in the field of water and sanitation engineering. National Society staff in comparable positions are also welcome.

6 weeks online, 5 days F2F, 3 months post learning assignment
Fee information
2650 EUR (1750 course fees + 900 hotel).
Course fees include venue, facilitation, lunch, and snacks during the days of the course.
You have the option of having the ICRC organize your accommodation or arranging it yourself. If you organize it yourself, you will only pay the course fees (1750 EUR).
Flight and transport are entirely your/your organization’s responsibility in terms of organization and coverage.
