1. Purpose of the position:

  • Provide technical support and expert guidance to the Climate Action Programme(s):
  • Offer technical support and expert guidance throughout the consulting engagement, providing timely responses to queries and addressing any additional needs that may arise.
  • Bridge the gap between climate science and practical application, enabling stakeholders to adapt to climate change, make informed decisions, and contribute to global efforts in mitigating its impacts.
  • Collaborate with national and international climate organisations, research institutions, and other stakeholders to foster knowledge exchange and promote best practices in climate service delivery.
  • Build the capacity of stakeholders and young leaders to understand and utilise climate information effectively, empowering them to integrate climate considerations into their decision-making processes to support meanig
  • Conduct dynamic awareness sessions and seminars tailored specifically for young people. Inspire and equip them with the knowledge and tools to actively engage in our climate action initiatives.
  • Organise and facilitate capacity-building trainings designed to empower youth leaders. Foster their skills in advocacy and climate resilience, enabling them to lead impactful advocacy initiatives within their communities.
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange and promote best practices in youth-led climate initiatives.
  • Provide technical insights to our communications team to effectively communicate programme impacts and success stories to a broader audience.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with the Senior Programmes Officer on the Climate Action Programme and other assigned programmes in the development and ensuring stewardship of effective partnerships with the Local Partner Organisation(s), to support enhanced local ownership, local capacity, strengthened local administration, greater cost-effectiveness, and greater sustainability of the assigned Programme(s).
  • In a pre-agreed form, ensure a regular flow of high-quality information and evidence to feed communications needs, reporting, and future prospecting.
  • Lead on sharing of quality information, data, feedback, and evidence from volunteers/community to HQ and vice versa through mentoring sessions, reporting, horizontal learning sessions, and other means specified during assigned Programme(s) implementation.
  • Provide, in a pre-agreed format, monthly reports to the Senior Programmes Officer on priorities and progress of assigned programme(s), any problems arising, and plans for continual innovation and growth.
  • Prepare general briefings for staff and other audiences on assigned programme(s).
  • Support the Senior Programmes Officer and the climate programme team in delivering various types of training including Camps, Advanced Training, Specialised Training, Refresher Workshops, online training, etc.)
  • Any other delegated programmes-related tasks

Overall Deliverables:

  • Climate-Related Training Content: Deliver comprehensive climate-related training modules that align with the specific objectives and need. These modules should cover key topics related to climate action, climate change impacts, adaptation strategies, mitigation measures, and best practices.
  • Identify Key Topics: Identify key climate-related topics that can be adapted to different educational and other identifier levels.
  • Ensure Scientific Accuracy: Ensures that all climate-related information in the curriculum is scientifically accurate, up-to-date, and based on peer-reviewed research. Verification of the credibility of sources and avoid misrepresentations or misinformation.
  • Facilitation of Selected Sessions: Act as a facilitator during training sessions, leading and guiding discussions on climate-related topics. This includes engaging participants in interactive activities, group exercises, and case studies to enhance their understanding and knowledge retention.
  • Preparation of Training Materials: Prepare and provide relevant training materials, presentations, handouts, and resources to support the participants’ learning and serve as reference materials for future use.
  • Reporting: Prepare a comprehensive report summarising the training sessions, participant feedback, and recommendations for further actions. The report should outline the achievements, challenges, and outcomes of the different Climate Action Training subject to review and sign off by supervisor.
  • Follow-up Support: Offer post-training support and guidance to participants, answering their questions and addressing any concerns they may have while implementing climate action initiatives.
  • Knowledge Transfer: Facilitate knowledge transfer to the young people and training themselves, equipping them with the necessary tools and resources to conduct subsequent training sessions independently.
  • Partnerships and Engagement: Preparation for meetings, active participation, addressing concerns, building relationships, establishing, and nurturing relationships with stakeholders to foster a positive and collaborative working environment.
  • Follow-up Actions: Noting and implementing action points and following up on commitments made during the meetings to ensure that agreed-upon tasks are completed within the specified time frame.
  • Internal Communication: Reporting back to the organisation’s management or relevant teams on the outcomes of the meetings, including any agreements or changes in plans.
  • Stakeholder Mapping and Engagement: Develop a stakeholder engagement plan that facilitates collaboration and fosters relevant stakeholders’ awareness of climate-related issues and initiatives.
  • Compliance: Adhering to organisational, ethical guidelines and code of conduct internally (within the organisation) and externally with volunteers, partners, donors and stakeholders.
  • Professional Development for Frontline Workers: Conduct workshops or training sessions to effectively build the knowledge and confidence of frontline workers in teaching climate-related subjects.
  • Support the design and implementation of the LCOY event, COP29, and any seminars and events related to the climate programme.
  • “Supporting conferences that fall under the GFP climate action agenda for the road of COP28.”
  • Support the climate Youth Leaders in the design, development and implementation of the Climate advocacy initiatives and climate advocacy events

  • Quality of relationships with donors, partners, and Local Partner Organisations in assigned Programme(s)
  • Quality of programmes database for assigned programmes
  • High-quality inputs into development of programme donor proposals and grant applications
  • Continuous personal learning, competency development, and growth

6. Education, Qualifications, Competences, Skills Required:

Essential:

  • Jordanian nationality
  • University bachelor’s degree essential, in a relevant discipline such as: environmental studies, environmental engineering or any related degree in climate and environment is a must
  • At least two years professional experience in a related position/positions
  • Experience in leading a team of three members or more.Experience in managing volunteer-led community programmes
  • Experience in environment/climate action, conflict transformation and peacebuilding programmes
  • Experience in programme design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience in training and facilitation
  • Experience in mentoring others
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural team
  • Experience in event management
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities and work under pressure
  • Ability to reflect, learn, and improve, and experience in using feedback processes for learning
  • Excellent computer skills (documents/spreadsheets/databases/presentations/calendars/email)
  • Excellent spoken and written English and Arabic, including written programme plans and reports
  • Interest in global current affairs, conflict and peace building and international development

Preferred:

  • Masters’ Degree in a relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated knowledge of different theories of conflict transformation and social change
  • Experience in international development especially community development and behaviour change programming is useful but not essential
  • Experience in different forms of evaluation, including participatory evaluation, participatory video, most significant change, is useful but not essential
  • Experience in sport-based, arts-based and dialogue approaches to behaviour change is useful but not essential
  • Experience in advocacy for community-led change is useful but not essential
  • Travel and experience working in other countries
