Diversity enables acknowledging and respecting differences
By having diversity as a core value of the institution, the WBG integrates, into the daily work of all its branches, cultures and practices that grant, value and mobilizes what makes everyone unique.
Acknowledging and respecting all the differences such as nationality, gender and gender identity, race, religion, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, disability, and educational background is a fuel to this objective, making the WBG a place where all staff feels valued as employees of the Group.
The World Bank Group Commitments on Disability-Inclusive Development
The WBG has a series of commitments that are aimed at a disability-inclusive development. These are:
- Inclusive Education
- Technology and Innovation
- Data Disaggregation
- Women and Girls with Disabilities
- People with Disabilities in Humanitarian Contexts
- Transport
- Private Sector
- Social Protection
- Staffing
- Disability Inclusion and Accountability Framework
It’s important to remember that WGB is comprised of five institutions. They are:
- The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD): The IBRD offers loans to governments of middle-income and creditworthy developing countries.
- The International Development Association (IDA): The IDA provides concessional loans and grants to governments of the poorest developing countries. It should be noted IBRD and IDA together are referred at the World Bank.
- The International Finance Corporation (IFC): The IFC is the world’s largest development institution focused entirely on the private sector.
- The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA): MIGA’s aim is to promote foreign direct investment into developing countries in order to foster economic growth and improve the quality of life.
- The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID): The ICSID supplies international facilities for conciliation and arbitration of disputes between international investors and States.
Hence, all these 5 branches of the WBG are pervaded with the diversity and inclusion themes, making sure the WBG as a whole is commited to these values.

The WBG has issued a statement of commitment to the causes of diversity and inclusion, to clarify the institution’s approach to both topics and the way these themes are absorbed into the WBG’s activities:
