Job Title: Communications and Outreach Specialist (Content Writer)
Department/Location: USAID/ Peru (Remote – home based assignment anywhere globally)
Reports To: ISPI Project Manager
Type: Consultancy – 130 days

Overview:
The incumbent performs key communications functions, including preparing or contributing to a broad range of products for internal and external audiences, and for inclusion in the Mission’s knowledge management systems. These efforts contribute to the Mission’s strategic communications goals.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:
The specific duties of the incumbent include the following:
- Guide and assist technical offices in crafting and editing reports, fact sheets, briefers, success stories, press releases and other materials that explain and promote USAID programs.
- Develop, produce, aggregate, assemble, edit, and coordinate information and communication material for the Ambassador, Mission Director, and other USAID and embassy leadership, including briefing memos for official trips to projects and meetings with senior counterpart officials (Minister-level); and responses to information requests from senior USAID and Embassy officials.
- Define content and produce periodic activity updates of programmatic activities to inform senior USAID and Embassy officials.
- Write and edit a broad range of internal products, including cables, briefers, memoranda, reports, correspondence (including official letters and emails), policy briefs and other material to advance USAID’s development objectives and strategic communications goals.
- Organize and prepare responses to information requests from USAID/Washington in line with guidance from the LAC Bureau and ensure that systematic procedures are developed for this process.
- Contribute to materials production and formal review of annual performance reports, operational plans, portfolio review summaries and other ongoing program monitoring products.
- Contribute written content, graphic visualizations and review/edit documents and products generated by USAID/Peru.
- Support the Mission in managing and presenting data in graphic formats to easily convey complex concepts and results for laypersons.
- Assist in document management and the processes for clearance and approvals.
Deliverables
- Mission Highlights periodic e-newsletter (5 in total)
- Technical documents (long) copy edited (approximately 1 per work week)
- Technical documents (short) copy edited (approximately 1 per work week)
- Assembly and collation of input and edits from USAID staff to short documents needing quick turn-around (approximately 5 such documents per work week)
- Drafting of in-depth “”programmatic briefers”” (approximately 3 over the contract period)
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- A minimum of five years of experience in an international development assistance, private sector, government, non-governmental organization, or similar office environment.
- Advanced skills in using word processing applications (e.g., MS word, GoogleDocs).
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree is required, preferably (but not required) in a field related to program management, Public Administration, Business Administration, Political Science, International Development among others.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Spanish preferable, but not required.
- Mastery of the Google suite of applications (e.g., GoogleDocs, GoogleSheets) preferable, but not required.
Working Environment: Work is to be performed remotely.
Physical Requirements: This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Travel: International travel may be required and may include travel to fragile and/or conflict-prone zones.
Work Authorization: Candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.
