Job Description:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILTIES

Activity

  • Collaborate with project managers and forestry experts to develop plantation plans and layouts considering factors such as soil type, topography, climate conditions, and species selection.
  • Oversee land preparation activities including clearing, soil cultivation, and land levelling to ensure optimal conditions for tree planting.
  • Coordinate and supervise tree planting activities ensuring adherence to planting techniques, spacing requirements, and species distribution as per the plantation plan.
  • Implement irrigation systems and water management strategies to maintain adequate soil moisture levels and support healthy tree growth
  • Monitor for pest and disease outbreaks, and implement appropriate control measures to minimize damage to tree populations
  • Develop and implement soil fertility management strategies including the application of fertilizers and soil amendments to optimize tree growth and productivity
  • Active engagement of project stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and guidelines governing forestry plantation activities, and implement best practices for sustainable land management.
  • Engage with local communities involved in the Cash for Work project, providing training and support to enhance their skills and knowledge in forestry plantation management.
  • Maintain accurate records of plantation activities, including planting progress, inventory management, and resource utilization prepare periodic reports for project management and stakeholders.
  • Manage Cash for Workers in site day to day activities, resolve disputation and insure adherence to plans and quality,
  • Leading procurement process for agriculture components, submitting purchase requests, managing suppliers and contractors.
  • Serve as a technical reference in agricultural aspects.
  • Perform other duties/special projects assigned by the line manager.

KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE :

Required Professional Experience

  • 2 or more years of full-time technical & professional experience in a similar role.
  • Proven experience in Agriculture projects and plantation sites
  • Proven experience in plantation management and plants taking care
  • Strong technical knowledge of forestry practices, tree species identification, and plantation management techniques.
  • Experience in Cash for Work projects with GIZ

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Forestry, Environmental Science, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of child protection / child rights
  • Computer literate mainly with MSOffice software package
  • Good communication skills and ability learn new methods in data management.
  • Demonstrable creative thinking and innovation skills

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new skills and technologies as needed.
  • Proficiency in relevant computer applications and software for data management and reporting.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently in a dynamic environment.

Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement

10% field work

90% office base
