ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

This position is based in Shire, Ethiopia, and reports to the head of sub-office, Shire. The incumbent will work closely with other colleagues in the Tigray region and the Head of Nutrition based in Addis Ababa.

JOB PURPOSE

To provide support to nutrition activities to address the current emergency nutrition intervention needs.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1. Identify partnerships for nutrition including initiating discussions with potential partners, undertaking the technical review of nutrition proposals and participating in local project review committees as required.
2. Maintain an updated nutrition partnerships mapping matrix showing FLA duration, areas of operations, etc… – for the entire Tigray nutrition response.
3. Participate in regular meetings with WFP nutrition partners to review implementation progress, and identify challenges and possible solutions.
4. Conduct regular supportive supervision visits to assure quality of programme implementation and identify capacity gaps that require addressing.
5. Provide support to strengthen the capacity of WFP staff, key partners, HEWs, and healthcare workers involved in the nutrition response to ensure quality program implementation as needed.
6. Participate in development and/ or finalisation of project documentation and relevant guidance and tools on the Tigray nutrition response.
7. Support the planning for nutrition resource requirements – mapping of beneficiary figures and specialized nutritious supplies required in consultation with the emergency nutritionist.
8. Support the timely reporting of nutrition programme data, including the regular production of Tigray nutrition response dashboard depicting progress against the plan and programme performance indicators
9. Identify and recommend opportunities for improvement of the WFP nutrition response based on convergent analyses with partners and programmatic results e.g. new programme areas, beneficial programme synergies, potential partnerships, etc. and make recommendations to the Nutrition coordination team in Mekelle.
10. Participate in nutrition cluster coordination meetings, and represent WFP in nutrition cluster initiatives, including technical working groups, as needed.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Minimum of a University degree in Nutrition and health-related areas. A master’s degree in nutrition or Public Health will be an added advantage.

 

Experience: 

  • At least 3 years of field experience with nutrition/health/food security or related field. Experience working with the UN is an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with nutrition interventions (IMAM/CMAM, prevention programming).
  • Knowledge of global nutrition and global humanitarian architecture.

 

Language: 

  • Fluency in English language.
