In order to start a career with the Asian Development Bank, applicants must know what are the existing recruiting initiatives, their eligibility criteria, and the different stages of the selection processes, as well as have a broad understanding of the culture and values of this complex international organization.
This book was written and revised by a team of professors, human resources specialists, and intergovernmental organization staff with a great deal of diligence. It is divided into 12 chapters, which have the following aims:
Chapter 01 – Asian Development Bank: Understanding the Organization
Presents the ADB through its administrative organization, its history, its decision-making system, and strategic activities. This chapter is essential since it is very common for candidates to have difficulties with understanding this complex organization during their various selection processes. Overcoming this difficulty is extremely important for those who wish to work at the ADB, since knowledge about the organization and its strategies is essential during any of its selection processes.

Throughout their history, International Financial Institutions (IFIs) have been supported by different theoretical models to advance their international development strategies and policies. Knowledge of these models (particularly the current one) is essential for ADB candidates since they must present solutions to the questions posed during the selection process, which are in line with the organization’s way of thinking. Therefore, Chapter 4 presents a summarized history of IFIs’ international development models, from their creation until current times, while Chapter 5 explains the theoretical foundations of the current neo-institutional economic model, presenting its main premises and concepts and providing a study guide to help candidates gain a better understanding of it.
Chapter 6 – Crafting the Ideal Resume/CV
Assists candidates to craft a strong Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV), which is essential to reinforce their chances of success in the selection process and for them to stand out from other candidates. Chapter 07 – Writing an Effective Cover Letter
Explains what a Cover Letter (CL) is, presenting its basic structure and assisting candidates in the process of writing an effective CL. Includes a sample Cover Letter of a successful candidate.
Chapter 08 – Effective Reference Letters
Helps candidates obtain effective reference letters, which can significantly contribute towards their success in the selection process. In this chapter, the following questions are answered: “What is a reference letter?”; “How is it different from a letter of recommendation?”; “Who should I ask for a reference letter?”; “How do I request this letter?”; and “What content should be included in a reference letter?”.
Chapter 9 – Preparing for the ADB’s Online Tests
Presents the characteristics of ADB’s online tests and offer tips and suggestions to help candidates best prepare for this phase.
Chapter 10 – The ADB Interviews
Qualifies candidates, so that they perform successfully in the interview.
