Org. Setting and Reporting
– Supervisor:
The incumbent of this post reports to the Field Maintenance Engineer.
– Supervisees:
Staff member provides guidance and support to the designated variable number of professional and GS staff.
Responsibilities
The incumbent:
– Provides substantive input to the overall maintenance plans; assists in conducting annual
technical surveys of all Agency buildings and installations in his/her Area to determine
maintenance priorities, needs and financial requirements; prepares and updates annual work
plans for all maintenance works in his/her area; prepares/reviews Bills of Quantities/Job
Orders and cost estimates for the works to be carried out.
– Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of maintenance project or a set of projects in his/her
Area, ensuring that project(s) are accomplished within the prescribed time frame, funding
parameters and UNRWA rules and standards; ensures that a complete set of project
documentation including all developments/changes are available at all times on site.
– Is responsible for the contract management in his/her Area; monitors and updates regularly
maintenance Area project(s) implementation plan, ensuring that technical instructions and
guidelines as related to the maintenance projects are applied; revises the contractor’s quality
plan and suggests improvement as appropriate.
– Carries out site visits to discuss and resolve problems arising during the implementation;
makes sure that the contractor meets contractual requirements including environment, health
and safety and insurances; certifies schedules for labour and equipment; reviews shop
drawings, identifies, analyses, verifies and discusses claims of work changes, and accordingly
prepares draft variation orders; ensures that a complete set of project(s) documentation
including all developments/changes are available at all times on the site.
– Reviews, monitors maintenance time schedule, cost, and quality on daily/ weekly basis;
ensures performance is in compliance with the contract requirements, specifications and local
regulations; monitors and tracks completion of all independent testing and inspections as
required.
– Reviews and certifies daily, weekly site reports; prepares comprehensive reports indicating
progress made on actual achievements and expenditure compared with the planned and makes
appropriate recommendations.
– Contributes to pre-qualification process, and preparation of detailed technical analysis of the
submitted tenders; implements communication plans, and coordinates with end user
Departments to ensure meeting their operational and technical needs.
– Performing other duties as may be assigned.

* Conditions of service:
Contract Status:
– Fixed term Appointment for 3 years; including 1 year of probation period, with the
possibility of further extension, subject to the availability of funds, satisfactory performance
and continuing need.
– Grade: 14
– Monthly basic salary: 779.30 USD
Other benefits include:
Provident Fund contribution (15.4% of basic salary paid by the Agency).
Dependency allowances (if applicable).
30 days of annual leave in addition to maternity, paternity and sick leaves.

* General information
1. This vacancy notice is open to internal candidates only. Daily paid workers holding a daily
paid contract may be considered as internal candidates. As an Area post, only candidates who
reside in Syria at the time of applications are eligible to apply. The Agency does not assume
responsibilities nor support the issuance of work permits for those who has no legal
documents to live in Syria, job opening applies only to potential candidates residing within
the field of the post, residing within commuting distance of the duty station of the post.
