The Project Coordinator (Protection) reports to the Chief, Protection Division.
Responsibilities
-Updates and revises the workplan for the project, which includes defined activities, budgetary requirements, timelines, expected outcomes, monitoring indicators and the overall strategy.
-Develops project implementation budgets; plans and forecasts grant expenditure, project activities, procurement and staffing to ensure compliance with the project contract and to prevent overspending or underspending; authorizes project expenses based on project plans and UNRWA financial planning.
-In close collaboration with the Information Management and Technology Department (IMTD) and Field Offices, coordinates and conducts monitoring and evaluation activities based on defined monitoring indicators.
-Coordinates with staff from a variety of different departments (Education, Protection and Education, Information Management & Technology) across all five fields (Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, the West Bank, Jordan) on the humanitarian principles initiative; regularly liaises with Field Offices to ensure that project deadlines are being met; facilitates and organizes regular communications with relevant staff, offices, departments and concerned parties, including organizing meetings and workshops; ensures recruitment processes relevant to the project are conducted in a timely manner.
-Manages administrative, financial and logistical issues related to the project in close collaboration with the relevant departments and units in UNRWA at all levels and with external parties as necessary.
-Ensure that the relevant data is collected and reported to donors in a timely fashion; produces, in coordination with the Associate Reporting Officer, progress reports.

Education
An advanced university degree from an accredited educational institution in social sciences, finance, international development, project management, or a related discipline.

Work Experience
At least five years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in project management, international development, or a related field, is required.
Unless already serving as an international staff member in the UN Common System, a candidate for an international post must have at least two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA, and outside the country(s) of which the candidate is a national or holds citizenship, a passport or a national identity number, is required.
An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in social sciences, finance, international development, project management, or a related discipline, is required.
Experience working with the humanitarian principles in the United Nations, is desirable.
Knowledge of Palestine refugees and/or humanitarian response and development in the Middle East, is desirable.
Proficiency in programme cycle management, inclusive of monitoring and evaluation and the logical framework approach, is desirable.
Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
Languages
Excellent command of written and spoken English, is required.
Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
Type of Contract and duration: One year project funded, with the possibility of further extension, subject to availability of funds, satisfactory performance and continuing need.
