Functional Responsibilities

1.  National Implementation of Financing for Nutrition 

Working in close collaboration with the SMS Regional Hubs and other stakeholders, 

  • Facilitate nutrition financing support by the SMS and wider SUN Movement to SUN countries through stronger domestic and external resource mobilization and innovative financing solutions.

  • Strengthen multi-stakeholder and multisector approaches at the local and national level through strong partnerships and alliances on financing between in-country SUN members and other national, regional and global partners. 

  • Provide policy advice and technical support to SUN Countries for the integration of nutrition in national development budgets

2. Global Policy, Partnerships and Advocacy

Working in close collaboration with the SMS Advisors, Governance and Communications teams: 

  • Advice and implement strategic engagement and positioning of nutrition in key intergovernmental processes and with critical finance actors such as IFIs, MDBs, global funds and private sector investors in the development, food systems and climate space. 

  • Facilitate the development and implementation of targeted initiatives and projects with financing experts from the SUN Global Support System, development banks, private sector, funds and  foundations.

  • Lead and support the preparation of relevant meetings, conferences, etc., including proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and resource mobilization

  • Provide strategic advice on financing related matters to the SUN Coordinator and SMS senior management

  • Provide substantive inputs for finance related advocacy, including engagement of SUN governance bodies, advocates and champions

3. Knowledge management, reporting and innovation

  • Support the development and maintenance of a SUN repository on finance related tools and information including on climate, agriculture, food security and food systems or humanitarian financing 

  • Contribute to the development and introduction of innovation to ensure the SMS is continually incorporating best practice approaches.

  • Lead the preparation of nutrition financing technical reports, policy papers, annual reports and other written outputs including for SMS senior management and SUN governance bodies. 

Education/Experience/Language requirements

A. Education:

  • A Master degree in financing, business administration or economics, or related fields. 
  • A Bachelor degree in   the above  relevant fields with two additional years of relevant experience may be acceptable in lieu of the advanced degree.

B. Work Experience:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant professional experience in financing, resource mobilization and/or international donor relations is required, including minimum three (3) years in a development agency, IFI or other relevant public or private financing organization.

  • Professional work experience in an international setting, with experience working in developing countries or a field setting desired.

  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating and managing external stakeholder relationships is required.

  • Experience structuring and analyzing complex financial data and budgetary models, tools and mechanisms to inform decision-making is required.

  • Experience in climate, health, food, agriculture or nutrition financing is an advantage.

  • Experience in managing relations with governance bodies  of international organisations and international financial institutions is desired.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles of the nutrition movement is desirable.

C. Language:

  • Fluency in English Language ( Writing, Reading and Speaking) is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UNOPS language, particularly French or Spanish, is an asset.
